Got an achy back? Tight shoulders? Hips that feel like they belong to someone twice your age? Your nervous system feeling a little fried?
I’ve got you.
This is a Therapeutic Yoga class for real bodies, real aches and pains, and people who aren’t particularly interested in becoming human pretzels.
We’ll start by slowing things down and giving your nervous system a chance to settle. Then we’ll move through a slow, therapeutic Yoga practice designed to improve mobility, flexibility, and strength, with plenty of attention given to the back, neck, shoulders, hips, and deep core muscles that help support your spine.
Along the way, we’ll explore some of the common things that can contribute to back discomfort and how Therapeutic Yoga can help you work with your body rather than constantly trying to force it into submission.
We’ll work on:
Strengthening the deep core muscles that support your spine
Improving mobility through the spine, hips, and shoulders
Releasing chronic tension in the back, neck, shoulders, and hips
Moving in ways that support your back rather than aggravate it
Developing a better understanding of what your particular body needs
Then we’ll slow things down even further with some long-held Yin Yoga postures, giving your body time to settle into stillness and explore a little more space.
And because sometimes the best thing you can do for an overworked body and brain is stop doing things, we’ll finish with Yoga Nidra, sometimes called yogic sleep. I’ll guide you through a body scan designed to draw your attention inward and give you a chance to deeply rest.
This isn’t a boot camp disguised as Yoga. There is no sweating (we rarely even stand), no competing with the person next to you, and absolutely no prize for suffering through a pose.
It’s a practical, therapeutic practice for your back, your nervous system, and your wonderfully imperfect human body.
Come as you are, no experience needed. Your creaky bits are welcome.
